Fred Ritchin- Owen Sampson

One part of the text that stands out to me is on page 147 where the author speaks on a photo of U.S. soldiers saying "In a 1994 photograph we see U.S. soldiers invading Haiti, lying on the airport tarmac pointing their rifles at unseen enemies. The heroic image supports the claim of the U.S. government that it is invading to support democracy, liberating a neighboring country from a dictatorship" basically talking on a photo that has numerous meanings just the way a person can see the photo or understand its context as he speaks on the "The contradictory 'double image' is cubist; reality has no single truth" this is what I truly enjoy about art on understanding the meaning of a piece of art that would not have a true meaning in the end only it is up to the artist in either giving one or leaving it a mystery. Then the author goes on the value of the picture saying "If politicians, actors, and other people in power knew that the staged event would be exposed by a second photograph, or by a panoramic image that similarly revealed the staging" as he goes off on the fact that mystery on the meaning of the picture is important and is a true ingredient to photography.
